The Ask

Randeep, Director of Academic Partnerships at the time, needed help taking a bunch of great information and formatting it in a visually interesting way that would attract more people to her booth at the 2019 NAFSA Annual Conference & Expo in Washington D.C. This conference is a global professional learning and networking event for international educators and organizations.

The poster was called “Where in the World? Advising for Global Internship Programs”.

The Starting Point

Everyone has their own method of organizing thoughts and finding out ways to make the information easy to read and understand. For most, this starts in Microsoft Word, or in this instance, Google Docs. The image below is the idea that Randeep put together and sent to me as an example of what she was looking for.

My wheels started turning instantly. How can I take this and make people want to read it? First, I needed to understand the content and then start on my favorite part - organizing!

The Result

A well-designed, award-winning* poster presentation! This infographic style design paired with the thought-provoking content helped:

  • Attract people to look at the poster

  • Engage people to actually read the contents

  • Left people with a good impression and food for thought after they left

*Attendees were asked to vote for their favorite posters in two categories: Best Visual Presentation and Best Content Delivery for each of the four days of the conference. This poster won in both categories! Click here to view the other winners.

Producing content is something that I do all the time. Making that content look presentable in not only a clear but creative way, however, is something that is more on the difficult side for me and this is where Manpreet came in. She took a boring presentation of information and made it a gorgeous piece of art that everyone not only appreciated but wanted to engage with. Manpreet was super easy to work with. She listened to my needs, was patient with my requested changes and even gave me tips on how to print and share the information. I would highly recommend working with her.
